Meet Dr. Sunga
Dr. Elaine Sunga is a long-time resident of southern San Diego County and a graduate of Bonita Vista High School. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles, where she received a B.S. in Biology and graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Sunga went on to receive her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from UCLA, one of the top dental institutions in the country. Dr. Sunga continued her education to receive her Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, a prestigious Ivy League institution. There, she spent two years of specialized academic and clinical instruction on orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Upon completion, Dr. Sunga returned home to Bonita to begin her career as an orthodontist. Originally located next to the Eastlake post office in Chula Vista, Sunga Orthodontics found its current home on Windward Way in 2014.
Dr. Sunga is a board-certified orthodontic specialist and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO), California Association of Orthodontists American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA), San Diego Dental Society, and the American Association of Woman Orthodontists. Dr. Sunga was also featured as one of San Diego’s esteemed Top Dentists in the May 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 issues of San Diego Magazine, and also as one of America’s Top Dentists since 2008, awarded by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. In July of 2010 she was honored with the Rising Star Award by the Phil-Am Bid Association.
Dr. Sunga is married to Brian, a physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine. They have four sons. Dr. Sunga enjoys cooking, baking, reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
